Huw Merriman, MP for the Bexhill and Battle constituency and Chair of the Transport Select Committee, this week challenged British Airways to drop their redundancy and restructuring plans and commit to a future at Gatwick airport.

I spoke during the General Covid debate yesterday in Parliament. I focused on the transportation and particularly aviation which has been badly impacted, especially for cabin crew and staff at British Airways.

Local MPs, Huw Merriman and Sally-Ann Hart, welcomed yesterday’s announcement that the government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, which has been protecting local jobs during the coronavirus pandemic, will be extended until the end of October.

I asked the Secretary of State for Transport to clarify the Government advice on using public transport as part of it's exit strategy.

Today we celebrate and remember the huge sacrifice made by our forebears 75 years ago when VE Day marked the end of hostilities in Europe and the horrors suffered by millions during WWII.

Whilst I welcome the Government’s emergency financial package to support businesses during the Coronavirus epidemic, I am concerned to ensure that every legitimate business gets this targeted help.

With so many care settings in the constituency, I continue to keep a close eye on the support which staff and residents are receiving. This applies to national and local Government support.
