Huw Merriman, MP for the Bexhill and Battle constituency, is inviting constituents to a public meeting on Thursday 30 January in Bexhill to provide a latest Brexit explainer on the eve of the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union.

It now seems clear that there will be no cross-party agreement with Labour on leaving the EU. The Government intends to put the Withdrawal Agreement back to Parliament in early June.

I regret that I cannot bring you a meaningful update because, like you, I am waiting for talks to conclude between the Government and representatives from the Leader of the Opposition.

This latest EU update comes after the Prime Minister’s announcement that she will step down and my belief that if Parliament cannot deliver what we promised, then, with enormous disappointment, we need to look for another solution.

Following the second round of indicative votes last night, I was invited on to BBC Newsnight to discuss why I voted for a confirmatory public vote.

Yesterday, in a second round of indicative votes I set out my reasons for voting for the Kyle-Wilson amendment, which would involve putting the Prime Minister's Withdrawal Agreement to a public vote.

I am receiving a lot of correspondence from constituents on the UK's withdrawal from the EU on which the outcome is yet to be determined. I have therefore written this update with an invite to my constituents to a public meeting to come and hear more and have your say.

As you may be aware, last week, the Prime Minister’s deal with the EU was rejected by MPs for the second time, albeit by a reduced margin. In the aftermath, the Prime Minister promised MPs two days of debate, followed by votes. These votes are taking place this week.
