Coronavirus (Covid-19)

This dedicated section of my website aims to provide constituents with up to date information regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.

Please use the tabs on the left to find information and advice on the most commonly asked questions.

An interactive map on the latest data of cases in our area can be found at this link: coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map. Zoom in for local detail.

Find out what support you can get if you are affected by coronavirus at this government website page: https://www.gov.uk/find-coronavirus-support

Coronavirus is an unprecedented challenge and one of great concern. We live in an area which has the highest average age in the UK. This makes it even more important that residents take care of themselves, and others. Everyone in Parliament and Government is determined that we will get the country through this.

As you can imagine, we are experiencing an unprecedented level of casework from individuals with unique challenges. I have therefore provided information and links to official advice and will continue to update as the situation changes. Please do check these first and if your query is not answered then I, and my small team, will do our best to help.

My new year's message is 'get vaccinated'

Friday, 1 January, 2021

So it’s farewell 2020. When I delivered my column a year ago, as I looked ahead to the year now passing, I wrote that ‘the challenges to come are immense’. Looking back on my list, these were nothing on the scale I envisaged.

Tier 4 for all East Sussex

Wednesday, 23 December, 2020

Today’s announcement will see all of East Sussex move to Tier 4 from Boxing Day. Parts of the constituency have already been at this level since Saturday. This will now unite the county under one set of restrictions. This is going to be a very different and difficult Christmas and New Year.

Friday, 18 December, 2020

This week I have been working with my local County Council team and fellow East Sussex MPs to get a position on whether tier East Sussex, or parts of it, should remain in Tier 2 or move to Tier 3.

Watch: Face Masks on Public Transport

Monday, 14 December, 2020

I used the Covid-19 Statement to highlight the importance of wearing face masks on public transport.

I have sadly seen a recent increase in people wearing their face masks incorrectly or not at all. We must all follow the rules to try and prevent rises in Covid-19 cases.

An incredibly tough decision

Friday, 4 December, 2020

My neighbour in Hastings and Rye, Sally-Ann Hart, sent me the accompanying photo and reminded me that it had been a year to the day when it had been taken. We were out campaigning under clear blue skies in Hastings. At that point, she was a hopeful election candidate.

Wednesday, 11 November, 2020

Care homes in East Sussex have done a great job in keeping residents safe. However, it is vital that vulnerable residents can still experience the love and care from their family and loved ones.

Friday, 6 November, 2020

It’s been a difficult couple of weeks in the division lobbies of Parliament.
