Huw has joined District Cllr, Tony Ganly, and County Cllr, Angharad Davies, to view the delivery of 8 affordable housing units at the Hop Garden in Staplecross.
The houses provide homes for people from Ewhurst Parish and the surrounding area, for whom appropriate market housing is either unavailable or unaffordable. The average price of housing in rural parts of Rother District commonly exceeds 10 times the average gross annual income for those working there. Affordable housing is vital to maintain balanced rural communities in which people can afford to live and work.
Of the 8 homes provided, 6 are for rent (these are 2 x two bedroom houses and 4 x three bedroom houses). Also on the site are 2 x two bedroom houses which are being made available for Shared Ownership (part rent/part buy).
Huw said “These houses look fantastic and provide local residents and their families with an opportunity to live in their parish. Having helped deliver an affordable housing scheme in my ward as a District Councillor, I would like to congratulate Cllr Tony Ganly on this fantastic new development as well as the developers, Parish Council and the new occupiers”.
