Speeches in Parliament

Policing Debate

During the last 5 years, Sussex Police have delivered over £50m of efficiency savings whilst reducing levels of crime. The work of Katy Bourne, Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner, Chief Constable Giles Yorke and the Sussex Police force has been immense. In the term to come, there will be a requirement for further savings and I am keen to work with the Sussex Police team to ensure that these are manageable. This comes at a time when the Government are revising the funding formula for forces across the country. This formula could have implications for an area such as Sussex. As well as speaking about Police funding in a debate in the House of Commons on 4 November 2015, I also met with the Home Secretary in private to press the case for Sussex Police.

Assisted Dying Bill Debate

Many constituents have contacted me about the Assisted Dying Bill. I voted in favour of this Bill but the House of Commons rejected the Bill by 330 votes to 118. Please read my speech to the House of Commons.
