In the House with Huw Merriman - Local Parking Enforcement

In order to bring increased prosperity to our community it is vital that we get decent quality road and rail links. Last week, I met with Highways England to talk about the A21. There are some good measures in the pipeline to improve safety at Hurst Green and along the whole length of the road from Lamberhurst to Hastings, but the big change will be the opening of the new dual-carriageway between Pembury and Tonbridge in 2016. This will ease congestion and reduce journey times and accidents at this bottleneck and on the back of this I will be campaigning to dual-carriage the rest of the A21 all the way down to Hastings. Although this may not reach fruition whilst I am your MP, I will make this one of my top priorities.

In the House with Huw Merriman - Friday 10 July

Last week I met the Managing Directors of Southern and South Eastern rail companies to discuss performance and service levels on behalf of local rail users. Both train operators have experienced difficulties in the last year and their services have been impacted by the work being undertaken at London Bridge. Southern has been particularly criticised for poor punctuality and over-crowding and I took part in a debate on their performance in Parliament this week.  As a regular commuter myself, I am all too aware of these problems and the importance of a reliable rail service for those who travel to work by train.

In the House with Huw Merriman MP - Friday 26 June

I sit in the House of Commons from Monday to Thursday, leaving Friday as my day in the constituency. Here is my working day from last Friday to give you an idea of what I do locally and how I can help you and your community.

In the House with Huw Merriman MP - Friday 12 June

Whilst I arrived in Parliament on the first Monday after the election, it was only officially opened for business by the Queen at the State Opening of Parliament. During this day of pomp and ceremony, the Queen delivers the Queen’s Speech in the House of Lords, where I joined the other 650 members of the House of Commons in the corridor attempting to catch a glimpse and hear the speech.

In the House with Huw Merriman MP - Friday 29 May

Last week started with the re-election of the speaker of the House of Commons. Unlike most elections, a contest to re-elect the speaker is only held if there are any shouts of dissent to his nomination.

Huw Merriman MP - The Next Five Years

After the euphoria of election night, I am now fully focused on starting my new role as the MP for Bexhill and Battle Constituency. On the Monday after Election Day, the new MPs started our induction programme in Parliament. There is a huge amount for me to learn and some of the skills will take time. I am, however, doing my utmost to be ready to serve from the start and my team are already in place to help me do so.
