The Transport Select Committee paid a visit to Southern Rail to view the driver-only operated trains which have been at the centre of an industrial dispute between the train operator and train unions for almost a year.

Transport Select Committee - Huw Merriman questioned Ian Prosser, Director of Railway Safety and HM Chief Inspector of Railways, Office of Rail and Road, and Simon French, Chief Inspector, Rail Accident Investigation Branch on the investigation into Reedham Train Station. He also questioned Mark Carne, Chief Executive of Network Rail on the consequences of the new level crossing requirements.

Transport Select Committee - Huw Merriman questioned a number of rail industry experts including Roger Cobbe, Policy Director, Arriva UK Trains Ltd, and Tim Shoveller, Managing Director of Stagecoach Rail, Stagecoach Group. He also questioned Paul Maynard MP, Under Secretary of State for Transport, and Peter Wilkinson, Managing Director of Passenger Services, Department for Transport on rail franchising and the ongoing Southern Rail dispute.

Transport Select Committee - Huw Merriman raised questions to the Rt Hon Chris Grayling MP the Secretary of State for Transport along with Philip Rutnam, Permanent Secretary, Department for Transport about their priorities and departmental annual report on accounts. He also raised questions about the Southern Rail disruption and what was being done to resolve it.

Transport Select Committee Operation Stack Inquiry - the Transport Select Committee concluded its inquiry on Operation Stack, giving evidence before the committee were Andrew Jones MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, and Jon Griffiths, Deputy Director, Road Investment Strategy Division, Department for Transport, and Jim O'Sullivan, Chief Executive, Highways England.

Transport Select Committee Emissions Testing investigating the vehicle emissions scandal which impacted Volkswagen cars. Likely to lead to a tightening of European Union regulations so that cars are not just tested for emissions in laboratories, where software can 'cheat' the test, but in real-world driving conditions.
