I have been contacted by constituents regarding their concerns on the deadlock in negotiations between the NHS and the pharmaceutical company Vertex on the licensing of the cystic fibrosis drug Orkambi.
It is concerning that while there remains an impasse, patients who could benefit from this medicine are being deprived of a chance at a better life.
It is encouraging however that the Secretary of State Matt Hancock has personally intervened to hold talks between Vertex, the NHS and the National Institute for Care and Excellence (NICE). I wrote to him to urge him to continue to facilitate the negotiation process so that a fair deal can be reached for all. You can read my letter below:
