The third session in the Transport Committee’s inquiry on Zero emission vehicles and road pricing discussed the affordability of zero emission vehicles for both the new and second-hand markets, the supply of zero emission vehicles and the role, if any, of regulation to help meet the 2030 and 2035 phase-out dates, the Government’s approach to rolling out charging infrastructure across all regions and how regional and local needs feed into a national strategy, Government progress on Project Rapid and the distribution of the rapid charging fund, grid connections and infrastructure provision beyond the strategic road network, including in rural areas, the Government’s approach to helping people manage energy demand from EV charging through ‘smart charging’, and how the transition to electric vehicles fits into the Government’s wider transport decarbonisation strategy, with a focus on how it aligns with policies to encourage modal shift.
